Soldier from Cuero, Texas, dies in Afghanistan

An infantryman from Fort Drum, N.Y. has died from combat injuries after his unit was attacked by small-arms fire in Pul-e-Alam, Logar province, Afghanistan, the Defense Department has reported.

Spc. Kerry M. G. Danyluk, 27, of Cuero, Texas, died Tuesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. He was injured on Saturday, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. Danyluk is the first U.S. service member to die in combat in Afghanistan since Feb. 28.

Danyluk was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

He joined the Army in October 2010 and previously deployed to Afghanistan from December 2011 to February 2012.
