I can't stop thinking about the teachers at Harriet Tubman Charter School, and the horrible, bulling working conditions they must endure at the hands of their Principal. And the young teacher who passed away due to stress related seizures. She alerted the administrators whose response was to double down on their harassment and her workload, and then fire her. I can't forget Principal Scinski's dismissal of her as just a "Teach for America Teacher" - so cold. I am haunted by the fact that this principal and charter school board are in a position to influence our children.
Here is her rebuttal letter to parents: http://www.tubmancharter.org/ourpages/auto/2014/4/1/47398965/Parent%20Letter%203-31-14.pdf - It's tone is one of anger and condemnation of the teachers, of us against them - And she has the nerve to tell parents there are no sides, that we are a united Tubman community. After reading this letter I feel she is truly delusional and should not be working with children. I hope that the San Diego Unified School District's Board takes this letter into consideration as they investigate how she administers.
(I hope I cited the links correctly, and that they can be accessed).

(13,081 posts)That a couple of years ago, one teacher actually shot himself in the central quad before school one day. His boss bullied him. And I know that she bullied him, because rather than do anything about her, they transferred her to my school, where she damn near caused me to have a total nervous breakdown. By the end of my second year with her, I was being treated for panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder, severe depression.
I've had lots of jobs where I was a teacher, but I've never been in a field where there were so many bullies and so much stress.

(4,225 posts)And often it is "test scores" that are the excuse. This Principal talks a good game in her letter, but is just a rationale for her ruthlessness.

(88,117 posts)I feel for those teachers. My last principal before I retired was unbearable. It was first time I witnessed a principal of the new order of education reform. Rude and overbearing.
I hate to see people in charge of our education who do not have the best interests of all involved.
Thanks for sharing. I wish the best for those teachers.
