.... because I was quite surprised to hear Mr. Dawkins' name in the Easter service. Working Ray Combs's (the second host) suicide in was also very surprising.
Also mentioned:
Michael Bloomberg
"Any religion that does not include Jesus Christ and the Resurrection is not a true religion"
Basically blamed the Jews and mocked Islam
oh and suicide bombers. Two mentions of suicide today.
The theme was a weird defense of the Resurrection against the "theories" doubting it:
the moved body
the swooning
the wrong tomb
the oral history
and another one I forgot
(true story today at church today).

(38,613 posts)Every year it gets more and more defensive. I commented last year to my wife ~"Why argue against the arguments? This is THE BIG DAY - play winner not victim. Celebrate it, this is YOUR greatest moment."
Basically he is doing the Fox News/talk radio 1. play victim ...usually there is 2. follow me out of the wilderness 3. declare victory but this guy doesn't get the schtick

(182,626 posts)But if he senses that he may not have as much time left as he would like, he has little doubt about what would await him at a Judgment Day. Pointing to his work on gun safety, obesity and smoking cessation, he said with a grin: I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven Im not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. Its not even close.

The Pastor quoted Businessinsider.com but I see that a simple google shows Daily Caller, The Blaze, Washington Times etc. had articles on this

(182,626 posts)I got married there. It was just a big church (seats about 3k ?) now they are trying to be a mid-sized mega church. Massive AV displays and new hymnals. I think the pastor has bigger things in mind.

(6,452 posts)I wonder how many others are hostages of religion like that.
Hope you can find a solution.

(182,626 posts)My in-laws are Union Dems through and through. They joined this church 30-40 years ago when it was a simple Baptist church. I think the Pastor and others have designs on using it to move them up.

(6,452 posts)Maybe you can all agree to find a new place, if this is the road they're going down.

(10,745 posts)First of all, does he realize that Dawkins is British? Family Feud didn't air a version in Britain as far as I know. But that's the least of his offenses.....His belief Christianity being the only "true" religion is bad enough, but it's the anti-Semitism that's really bothersome above all.
You might want to find another church, TBH; this pastor of yours....there is something wrong with this man.

(11,589 posts)I see it's your family church, and totally understandable -- but it seems like something is taking precedent over this particular church.
From what you posted, it really seems aggressive against Jews.
I'm very uncomfortable with Christian religions going after Judaism and Islam.
Preach to the followers, don't alienate from the pulpit.

(182,626 posts)The victimization when you are literally preaching to the choir is bad show biz and an anti-celebration. IMHO.
