President Barack Obama made a “stupid move” in failing to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, Karl Rove said Monday.
The Republican strategist and Fox News contributor said the Obama administration delayed its decision on the pipeline to avoid upsetting the Democratic base.
“Of course it was about politics. It’s all about politics,” Rove said on Fox News. “The president’s concerned about the enthusiasm of Democratic voters going into the 2014 midterm elections, and he doesn’t want to do anything to depress that turnout.”
In particular, Rove said the president doesn’t want to alienate environmentalists or billionaire anti-Keystone activist Tom Steyer, who has emerged as an important Democratic donor.
