New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Monday said that marijuana legalization would not happen while he was in office because he did not want the Colorado quality of life in New Jersey.
A caller on New Jersey 101.5 radio pointed out to Christie that legalization seemed inevitable because of the revenue advantages for the state.
You say its going to come down the road. You know it may come down the road when Im gone, Christie replied. Its not going to come while Im here.
Later in the interview, Christie singled out Colorado, which recently legalized weed.
For the people who are enamored with the idea with the income, the tax revenue from this, go to Colorado and see if you want to live there, the governor opined. See if you want to live in a major city in Colorado where theres head shops popping up on every corner and people flying into your airport just to come and get high.
To me, its just not the quality of life we want to have here in the state of New Jersey and theres no tax revenue thats worth that.

Stiil, you take one look at Christie, and you realize quality of life is not one of his major concerns...

Gov. Christie, you are the governor of the state that has what is often referred to as the worst city in the country, Camden NJ. If I were you, I would STFU about another state's "quality of life."

(9,808 posts)Ours is late, and Christie was never a leading candidate here, but Colorado's GOP trends Western Libertarian. Legal pot got just over half of the Republican vote, and popularity is growing as everyone realizes that it isn't causing significantly more problems than we already had.
