Police: ‘Call of Duty’ loss prompts shooting hoax in Long Beach (a natl trend called 'swatting')

LONG BEACH - Authorities say a gamer that lost a round of "Call of Duty" called police to the winner’s home in Long Beach and claimed there was a shooting.

Police say they received a 911 call from a man stating that he had killed his mother and brother at a home on Laurelton Boulevard. Dozens of emergency responders sped to the scene only to realize the call was a hoax.

Police say the hoax was part of a national trend called “swatting,” where a losing player calls police in an effort to bring the maximum amount of emergency response vehicles to the winner’s home.

Police officials say they are using the loser’s IP address in an effort to find the prank caller.

Couple of questions on this. First how does the loser know the winners address? Second isn't the call to 9-11 logged? Don't they already have the callers number? If not they are doing things seriously wrong.
