Get the popcorn -GWB probe: N.J. legislative panel issues more subpoenas

Governor Christie’s press secretary and a former administration aide are among the latest to be subpoenaed by the state legislative panel investigating the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge last year.

The explosive e-mails and text messages, obtained and first reported by The Record, sparked a political firestorm that extended far beyond New Jersey and Fort Lee. For full coverage, click here.

Michael Drewniak,
Christie’s primary spokesman, and Christina Renna, a governor’s office staffer who resigned amid the bridge lane closure scandal, have been subpoenaed to testify before the committee on May 13 and 6, respectively, the committee announced on Tuesday.

Renna’s attorney, Henry Klingeman, told The Record she “intends to comply with the subpoena.”

Renna worked under Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s former deputy chief of staff from Ramsey. Christie fired Kelly after The Record published emails in January disclosing her role in the lane closures. Kelly has refused to respond to subpoenas she’s received from the legislative committee, citing her Constitutional rights against self incrimination.

Also being sent subpoenas to testify Tuesday are Port Authority executive director Pat Foye and Port Authority board member William “Pat” Schuber, also on May 13 and 6, respectively.

was just sent to Mr. Wisniewski from Mayor Zimmer. She discussed this with Joe Maraziti and Mr. Maraziti has apparently already discussed this with the U.S. Attorney. As I said before, the legislative committee is for entertainment purposes. The U.S. Attorney's office is where the action is at. I just hope Mayor Zimmer's fears of Christie's connections there don't pan out.

Fear of Christie's ties to U.S. Attorney kept Hoboken mayor from reporting alleged Sandy Aid threats, new letter claims

In what she says are previously unreported entries to her personal journal, Zimmer says she discussed coming forward with the city's redevelopment attorney, but ultimately decided it was pointless.

"I have now heard it from Lt. Gov. and Com. Constable," she says in apparent reference to the threats to her Sandy aid, which she says were made by both Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Richard Constable. "Yes – this is illegal. I debated with Joe Marzati whether or not to go to US Attorney – we decided that Christie has friends throughout US Attorney's office - ..[therefore] not much chance in getting help from them & it could create a nightmare for us. A little scary to realize that there's nowhere to turn for help against this threat from Gov. Christie. My best defense is to stand up to the bully – my beloved Gov who wants to run for president."
