Waitress who served alcohol to teen before fatal crash gets jail time, probation

Todays story below. I've been active in MADD etc. But when you read the two earlier stories you might just feel jail time for JUST Amanda Heiman is wrong. Under the circumstances probation and community service might have been the right thing to do.

But it brought the number of people who had purchased alcohol for the minors that weekend to five. Just one of the five is facing a felony charge: Heiman.

A waitress convicted of providing alcohol to an underage friend before he drove drunk and died on West Dodge Road was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in jail and two years of probation.

Amanda Heiman, 21, had faced up to five years in prison or five years of probation.

Heiman, who was 20 at the time of the Dec. 3, 2012, fatal crash, had served drinks that night to Jacob Dickmeyer, 18, and his friend Colby Burke, 19, at the Fire Barn bar in Waterloo.

Officials said she's likely eligible to serve her 30-day sentence under house arrest. She also must serve 80 hours of community service and was ordered not to drink or take drugs.
