Stop Electing Morons -Charles Pierce

"In an unprecedented move to dramatically expand the clemency process for federal drug offenders, President Obama has again demonstrated his blatant disregard for our nation's laws and our system of checks and balances embedded in the U.S. Constitution," Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said in a statement Wednesday afternoon..."This pattern of President Obama picking and choosing which laws to enforce and which to change according to his whim is an alarming trend that must stop," the congressman said in his statement. "The Justice Department's mission is to ‘enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law,' not to re-write the laws and to endanger American communities."

This is actually what is "embedded" in Article II, Section 2 of the actual Constitution, and not in the abridged-for-dumbasses edition that is in Bob Goodlatte's head.

The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

This isn't even a close call. This is as unlimited a power as the president possesses. (By the standards of the actual Constitution, he has much more authority to do this than he does to, say, send the Army all over the world.) He can grant clemency to people just to make Bob Goodlatte's frontal lobes detonate if he wants to do it. He can do it just to fk with the right people. In fact, I wish he would do just that, every day, all day.

they can stop him. They just keep whining about him doing things that actually ARE within his powers, and pretending they aren't, and that actually using the powers granted to him by the Constitution makes him some giant tyrant.
