A Lynchburg teenager whose body was found in December died of hypothermia.


Authorities released her cause of death at a news conference this afternoon held by the Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and the Lynchburg Police Department.

According to the death investigation, Gilbert had consumed marijuana the night she disappeared.

Prior to her death, Gilbert had written in her diary about the effects she felt after smoking marijuana: "I write these words in this book in order to share the strange, dark secrets in my head. ... I've only realized these secrets through the high I've received through Mary Jane."

The autopsy report indicates that marijuana consumption likely contributed to Jamison's death, "although the degree to which marijuana contributed to the death is uncertain."
