Every once in a while, I like to post a tribute to the one DUer who welcomed me...

...at the beginning of my DU experience (back in 2002) and made DU an awesome place for all.

My old, dear friend, NewYawker99. Where ever you are, you are missed and honored. Your legacy is DU itself.

...because that person liked and treated EVERYONE the same. A common denominator amongst us quarreling children. THAT was Roni (NYer99).

I try in my own feeble way to welcome people here and there, but always thinking about her when I do that! I feel like in the few times I get to it, it's a small way to honor her. She NEVER seemed to fail! She always seemed to find every one of the new arrivals here and greet them personally! NOBODY was overlooked, at least as far as I could see. Really a thoughtful gesture. Genuinely lovely! I just always appreciated that she did that. Great point, livetohike! It has indeed encouraged us to bind together as a family! An internet family, if you will. That would be us, warts 'n' all! Nice people like her make the warts harder to notice.

Thanks for starting this thread, Cooley Hurd. We need to be reminded from time to time what really, really good really is.

She welcomed me when I joined nearly 10 years ago and it meant so much to me for such a simple gesture.
