Donald Sterling -- Ironically Slated to Receive NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award Next Month

It's stunning to say the least ... Donald Sterling has been tapped by the L.A. chapter of the NAACP for a Lifetime Achievement Award ... at a gala event next month.

Leon Jenkins, Prez of the L.A. branch, has said in the past, "He [Donald] has a unique history of giving to the children of L.A."  Sterling donates thousands of Clippers tickets to local youth groups.

There have been several earlier allegations Sterling was a racist

He's famously racist and being honored by the NAACP, maybe the NBA isn't the only organization that needs some introspection.

but I received a few California Angels baseball tickets that were donated growing up in Southern California. The reason they were donated was because they could not be sold (the Angels, with the exception of Nolan Ryan, were atrocious and we are talking about Southern California here with lots of entertainment options).

Donated tickets also generate revenue. Merchandise and food sales for example. Even parking. Maybe these tickets had value but I am skeptical.

I don't mind you sleeping with black guys, just don't take pictures with them on instagram.

Its mixed messaging. His instagram buddies must be giving him shit. Social media makes some people go full stupid.

They're given out for money, or in attempts to get money. I mean some charity named an award the Walter Cronkite Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism (this is another Cronkite award from the one you've prolly heard of) and gave it to Ronan Farrow three days after the premiere of his TV show. They had a big dinner and feted him; I think it was all just an attempt to make money. Some of these awards aren't 'worth the paper they're printed on.'
