Racism would seem to be a major reason that many would turn away, but others are simply fed up with the number of police brutality and abuse and are happy to see someone standing up and the Police, even in the form of Federal Agents afraid.
I thought of that when I read this news article.
The college student is not resisting. The photo sequence at the link shows him calmly standing there with his hands behind him while two officers are putting hand cuffs on. The third officer walks to the front, the student doesn't move, and begins to choke him.
Many people are outraged when they see pictures like that, or videos of police brutality. Most of us have thought running through our heads, and that thought is that we wish that it could or would happen to those bully's who are so overjoyed at doing so to unresisting people. We think that because we know that there will be no punishment for the officer for this outrageous incident just like there are almost never any repercussions from any other incident of police abuse or brutality.
But at the Bundy Ranch, the police who regularly use fear, and abuse, are themselves afraid.
I am not saying I support Bundy, none of my writings to day have done so. ALL of them have said that I wanted to see the people involved arrested later safely.
However, many of our fellow citizens think that it's about time that the cops felt what the average citizen feels. The sense of powerlessness at the numbers, the fear of those who have the power to unleash such violence and wondering what if anything might set them off. How many times in this very GD forum have we posted about this cop or that one abusing some innocent? How many times have we pointed out that the cops regularly lie, and abuse people daily?
Now, the cops are the ones afraid, and some people while aghast at the racist statements, are also feeling a bit of shadenfreude at the idea of the cops being chased off. There is an old saying, the enemy of my enemy might be my friend. So people who don't subscribe to the racist statements are still chuckling that the Government was chased off.
Now, the thing I've been worrying about is not how many more will decide that this is the time to act. But how many more will wonder if the time to prepare for the collapse of civilization is now? I read somewhere that there are 3.6 million preppers in our nation. That's just over 1% of the population, and a lot of people who are convinced that a serious disaster or doomsday event is going to happen.

(48,181 posts)with police brutality. The racist loons like Bundy support police brutality, in fact they would like much more of it, particularly against blacks, Hispanics, leftists, and everyone else they hate, and they have a long list.

(13,081 posts)And a good example of what you're saying can be found in the question asked time and again about Bundy: what would the police have done if these were black guys? I think we all know the answer to that question.
I'm as sick and tired of police brutality as the next guy, probably more so, butBundy's supporters are the same guys who watched the Rodney King tape and said, But we didn't see the whole tape!" Right wing lunatics.

(30,058 posts)Authorities and especially the Bundy militia. In my view the Bundy militia is clearly domestic terrorist, rushing to show their guns. From some of their blogging they would like to have a "showdown with the gubermint.

(37,457 posts)I think Bundy derives his support entirely from RW lunacy, which includes racism. I don't think those people thought for one nanosecond about police brutality. It didn't even enter my mind until you brought it up. YMMV.

(4,205 posts)Has nothing at all to do with the dipshit standoff with the BLM... The domestic terrorists that joined the crooked rancher are not in any way shape or form "militia" They are domestic terrorist through and through and th eonly reason they got away with it is because they were willing to put their women and children in the front lines and hide behind them knowing that no one would fire at them.... in a word COWARDS.. nothing more... they can thank what happened at Ruby Ridge and Waco for allowing them to get away with it...
In the end Bundy will pay whatever price is due for this shit and the idiots that showed up and pointed guns at law enforcement officials will a pay a price later... some day down the line they will be either arrested and charged and probably any who have concealed carry permits will find it difficult to renew if not have then canceled outright.
