her favorite pink blanket, so it isn't dire yet, but it is a furious storm where I am. Thankfully, we are on higher ground than most in this area.

This is extreme weather. Never in my lifetime or my grandparents either.
Stay safe.
And Nadine, you are a DU diamond, a treasure. I too love storms. I grew up on a ranch in southeast Colorado. Thanks for all you do to keep DU members informed.

that the recollections that this is not normal is hogwash and that this is not really extreme but normal.

Never mind the National Weather Service has called this extreme.

I love DU at times...
