Living in a Police State!

Classic hallmarks

1. Have set up checkpoints where residents are required to prove they live in the area before being allowed to pass;
2. Have established a persistent presence along federal highways and state and county roads; and
3. Have established an armed presence in or around community areas including local churches, school, and other community locations.

Oh wait, http://horsford.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/horsford-urges-sheriff-gillespie-to-investigate-armed-militia-presence

1. Isn't that some kind of federal crime to impede traffic on a interstate highway?

That's part of the beef against Christie.

We have our own home grown Contras. It's the same lawless mentality that thought it ok to fund an illegal war come back around to haunt us again.

Is not evidence of a government-sponsored police state.

It's certainly getting there, however this is not an indicator of a police state.

The groups in question are incensed over the Fed's doing their job, they claim it is ham fisted authoritarianism, etc.

Ironically, their behavior reveals their own troubling mindset.

6. I think the checkpoints are on a privately owned road to Bundy's ranch.

I can't imagine the authorities allowing privately run armed checkpoints on public ways, even if they don't want things to escalate. Of course, I could be wrong. Second and third points are probably correct - not too much they can do in an open carry state.

7. Well, for now I'm thinking that the Congressman has his facts straight

He might be getting misinformed but he is on record, by way of his letter.

9. Rep. Horsford's first mention of this, on Hardball, mentioned "a checkpoint"

It was guest host Kondracke who turned that into checkpoints, plural. And Horsford went on to say that he had just received one email about it from one constituent.

Reports of other checkpoints besides the "Patriot Checkpoint" at the entrance to Bundy's driveway do not identify locations or other details to substantiate them. It could turn out that there is some truth to that, but so far there are no facts to support those claims. Horsford is only reporting what he's heard, without confirming the claims.

8. For now, his evidence is that "constituents have expressed concern".

That's enough to investigate, but not to convict in either the public or legal arena. And that is precisely what the Congressman's letter is asking for.

"I urge you to investigate these reports and to work with local leaders to ensure that their concerns are addressed in a manner that allows the community to move forward without incident."

(emphasis added by me.)

It's the insurrectionists that want blood shed, not the government.

oops - replied to the right person, wrong post.

My constituents have expressed concern that members of these armed militia groups:

1. Have set up checkpoints where residents are required to prove they live in the area before being allowed to pass;
2. Have established a persistent presence along federal highways and state and county roads; and
3. Have established an armed presence in or around community areas including local churches, school, and other community locations.
