The arrogant assholes in oklahoma botched the execution after refusing to disclose their methods.

An Oklahoma inmate died Tuesday evening of an apparent heart attack after authorities botched the delivery of drugs and stopped his execution.

Another execution scheduled for the same day was postponed.

Convicted murderer Clayton Lockett was sedated and then given the second and third drugs in the protocol, Oklahoma Department of Corrections Director Robert Patton told reporters.

"There was some concern at that time that the drugs were not having the effect, so the doctor observed the line and determined that the line had blown," he said.

When asked what he meant by "blown," Patton said that Lockett's vein had "exploded."

As opposed to what he did to this poor woman?

Sorry, while I'm generally opposed to the DP, I'm not going to lose any sleep over this waste of oxygen.

I think the world would be a much better place, with much less killing in it, if there were much less hate and need for vengeance in it to begin with.

You might get somewhere...

Until that point you will always have a small percentage of the populace that is extremely violent and results in what we saw in OK.

Others see it as the removal of someone who cannot and should not ever interact in society again on any level.

I'm not convinved that it's better to leave bastards like Anders Breivik to file torture complaints about his outdated Playstation 2.

Sure there are some who have opinions based on convoluted logic such as yours. I'm well aware. Unfortunately our political system makes change harder so it will take us longer to catch up to those countries but we will get there. THe death penalty is on the decline and has been for some time. Too bad for those who want revenge. You'll just have to move to a 3rd world country if it means that much to you when the times comes.

... and I've come to believe that it comes from a lack of experience.

Every time some horrendous tragedy happens the first thing that pops out is "Oh, he must be crazy! Oh, he must be mentally ill"

Some people need to realize that there are just some evil, violent fucks out there who have a desperate need to impose their will on others. They aren't ill or disturbed... They are just the cancer of society and given the opportunity it's best to remove them.

No matter what the person was convicted of, choosing to kill in lieu of other options is a stain on us and our society - it has nothing to do with the original crime at that point.

(And that's enough reason to oppose it, IMO - but add in the likelihood of errors at various points, expense, ineffectiveness, pain to innocent family members, stress to prison staff...)

At least 39 executions are claimed to have been carried out in the U.S. in the face of evidence of innocence or serious doubt about guilt (Executing the Innocent", Northwestern Univ. School of Law Center on Wrongful Convictions).

But far be it from me to stand in the face of your bumper-sticker wisdom and fortune cookie prophecies...
