Putin Demands Ukraine Withdraw Troops From Troubled Eastern Regions

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded Thursday that the Ukrainian government withdraw its troops from the troubled eastern part of the country, where pro-Russian separatists have been gaining ground.

Putin made the demand in a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called the Russian leader Thursday about the deteriorating security situation in eastern Ukraine. She reached out to Putin a day after Ukraine’s acting president said he had lost control of that portion of his country.

Merkel, who will meet with President Obama on Friday in Washington, pressed Putin to help secure the release of seven international observers — four of them German — who have been taken hostage by separatist forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk, her spokesman said Thursday.

Putin told her that “it was imperative today to withdraw all military units from the southeastern regions” of Ukraine, and he called for a “broad national dialogue” about reforms to Ukraine’s constitution, the Kremlin said.

It may be annexed to Russia.

It may be an autonomous region of a weak federal Ukraine.

But Russia is going to have its buffer state between the motherland and NATO.

he'll have more Russians separated from lessers.

Exalt the state, military and ethnicity above all ... and you get the ONF, Putin's little baby and expression of his will.

All the screams about fascism are just projection on his part. Russia for Russians and all Russians in Russia. Even if they're not a majority, drag along the others or ethnically cleanse them, it's the Russians that count.

Today peaceful unarmed protesters shot and wounded those resisting. It's surreal even for RT, but of course the spin is that if the bad elected officials hadn't resisted the will of das Volk then they wouldn't have been hurt. It's a law of nature that the strong hurt the weak when the weak dare to be uppity. I guess.

That can to afford a guerrilla war on his border. All he has to do is make a deal with these people and he would get everything he wants.
