UFT shafts the membership... AGAIN!

From its beginnings, the UFT has been more concerned with sucking up to the political elite than in representing its members. Public education has been built on the exploitation of women... and it continues.

Mayor DiBlasio, Mike Mulgrew and Carmen Farina held hands and happily announced: "An 18% raise."

Add it up. Five years without a contract plus a new four year deal plus all the deferrals and you get 1.5% per year. For good measure, job security was thrown under the bus. The final retroactive payments won't be made until two years after the current deal expires. I've lived through numerous administrations--Democratic, Republican, Liberal, Conservative--and this "Progressive" has proven that he's no different.

Ultimately, they don't really represent the workers, they represent capital. Class struggle is a zero-sum game at it's most basic level. If the bosses win, the workers lose and vice versa. Anybody that claims to support BOTH, will in the end, wind up supporting capital over labor.

It might take a crisis to bring about the ultimate, but capitalism is full of crises. Some are milder than others, but they always happen and sometimes the crises are huge, like we're living through now. That's why unions that claim to support both workers and management will ALWAYS betray workers in the end. As will "populist" left-reformist politicians.
