Chairman Xavier Becerra On Speaker Boehner’s Surprise Select Committee Announcement

Chairman Xavier Becerra On Speaker Boehner’s Surprise Select Committee Announcement
May 2, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement in response to Speaker John Boehner’s surprise announcement that he will appoint a select committee to investigate the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya:

“It gets harder and harder to know which Speaker Boehner you’re dealing with when he keeps changing his positions. It’s like the strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

“Less than one month ago, Speaker Boehner said ‘there are four committees that are investigating Benghazi’ and that he saw ‘no reason to break up all the work that’s been done and to take months and months and months to create some select committee.’ But today, without consulting House Democrats, Speaker Boehner made yet another reversal from his previously stated position and announced that he will appoint a select committee to investigate the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

“Conveniently enough, the announcement was made just hours after a better-than-expected jobs report showing 288,000 new jobs in April, one day after it was confirmed that over 8 million Americans signed up for private health insurance thanks to the Affordable Care Act, and one week after Speaker Boehner openly mocked his Republican colleagues who oppose fixing our broken immigration system. Either the Speaker is suffering from a bad case of the Flip-Flops or he is using a tragic but thoroughly-investigated incident in Benghazi as a political stunt to detract from the good news on the progress of our economy and the well-being of the American people. Whichever is true, it’s difficult to trust where House Republicans will take us next.”

Run on is Benghazi. $14 M already spent and they plan more. I wonder if the GOP leadership is this dumb or perhaps their members are dumb to follow them.

ON ANNIVERSARIES: OBAMA THE WINNER VS. BUSH THE LOSER

On May 2, 2011, Osama Bin Laden, the person that WAS responsible for 9/11, was killed. While Bush was busy claiming false victories, Bin Laden was free to plan more 9/11 type attacks. For seven years Bush could not get him, finally saying that Bin Laden wasn’t that important anymore. That was his way of admitting defeat. He lost.

It was three years ago that Obama won. He got Bin Laden. It was an important goal of his administration from day one. To get the guy who killed over 3,000 Americans. So he put effort into something that Bush didn’t care about. When it came time for a very risky mission, a mission that would have had a guy like Issa investigating had it gone wrong, Obama showed true courage and leadership and he gave the go order. Bin Laden was killed, and because of it the United States is truly safer. This is real, not PR spin.

We didn’t hear from guys like Issa during the Bush administration. We didn’t hear from him when Bush lied us into a needless war, causing the mass killings of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi citizens. We didn’t hear from him when Bush continued the lie 11 years ago. We didn’t hear from him during the eight embassy bombings during Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” era. Now, one terrible incident with four deaths and he won’t shut up. The hypocrisy is too obvious to even state.

Full write up is here and really nicely done:

Prevent future attacks but better security is not important for them.
