At a White House party. I won't get specific, because it might reveal her identity. (Feel free to assume that I'm lying about this.)
If you're still with me... she found it to be both totally disgusting and totally intriguing. He was good at his craft. She didn't jump at the opportunity, but she thought about it, and she was more than a decade older than Lewinsky, far more experienced in "the ways of the world". And she was close to Hillary, not Bill.
Think about it. The President of the United States. A bit of a power imbalance there.
Anyway, when I heard that story, I became much more sympathetic towards Ms. Lewinsky. How do you say no to... that?
(Somehow, I suspect that this post will make everyone who reads it angry at me for some reason or another.)

Manny's was neither.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)self-serving. I'm sure it was just as I perceived the personal attacks as self-serving with much more credibility since my comment was not even close to a personal attack. For some people though, disagreeing with them on anything IS a personal attack. Only they know the 'truth'. So again, Manny is right to anticipate such behavior.

Each of them said he has a magnetism, a spark, a "something about him" -- something that made each of them feel like they were the most important person in the world. Each of them said it was almost uncanny.
Some people, they got a mojo workin.

(90,189 posts)Because I was active in politics at that time, I got a ticket to stand in the inner ring of the security fences. Several thousand were at the speech all told.
When he left the podium he came to the fence to shake hands, the crowd surged. I was lifted off my feet and carried forward by the press of the crowd -- that was the first fascinating thing. The second fascinating thing was that when he shook my hand I literally felt a charge. When he passed the fence coming back I stuck my hand out and had it shaken again. Again the nearly electric charge.
I have to say that from that moment on I gained an understanding of why so many women just fell over backwards when alone with the Big Dog. Mojo indeed.

(8,646 posts)psychopaths. Now before anyone jumps all over me, psychopaths CAN lead good, law abiding lives if they believe it is in their best interests. There was a bit on CNN with Anderson Cooper and some researcher who said that all modern presidents (and VPs) rate very high on the psychopath scale except for Carter and Gore.
Psychopaths are known for being intensely magnetic and being able to size up a person in the blink of an eye (and play to their strengths or weaknesses, hence knowing what makes a person tick...which makes them able to make that person feel important). This same researcher said that most public personalities - especially in media and politics - are also high on the scale. He said he, himself, is rated very high but that because he has a lot of extrinsic motivation to do good in the world thanks to his parents, his community etc he grew up choosing the right path. However, he did say that sometimes he is 'empathy impaired' and this leads him to have to really think about his decisions. Another thing he mentioned is that these changed thinking patterns are visible on a brain scan...their brains really are wired differently. Interesting interview, anyhow.

But he will never be remembered as great because he wasn't bold, at least not in noble ways. Compromise-minded people are rarely seen as great.
He could have been mentioned in the same way as FDR or Lincoln if he had been born with boldness and a strong moral compass. For Clinton, I think power, wealth and women like Monica are enough, which is a real shame.

It doesn't matter who hit on who first, it doesn't matter which one of them was married, it doesn't matter which was male or female. It takes two to tango, they were equally culpable as either one of them could have said "No, this is a bad idea." I don't have much sympathy for either of them on this.

Years ago, I had an opportunity to meet President Clinton. I passed on it. (Likewise, though for different reasons, I did not take up an opportunity to be part of a small, informal dinner with Andrew Cuomo when he was running for governor.)
There are politicians that I've felt honored to meet -- including both Hillary Clinton and Mario Cuomo. In fact, I met each of those two twice. And there are others that I have no interest in meeting, because I have no respect for them as human beings, even if I recognize their political talents.
