In an interview with Vice, University of Arizona student Dean Saxton, who preaches under the name Brother Dean Samuel, explained why he protested outside a documentary about 1998 Miss World Pageant winner and rape survivor Linor Abargil last month.
During the protest, Saxton held a sign reading, You Deserve Rape. And he shouted at women to give up your immodest clothing and yoga pants are sin.

I believe there are certain qualities that may be worthy of rape, the street preacher added. If a woman dresses proactively, gets blackout drunk, and is wearing really revealing clothing, then I would say that she is partially responsible for the rape.

I love my yoga pants. All my workouts are done in yoga pants & I wear them to the store and such. Fuck him.

(111,241 posts)The preacher is a fool. Somebody needs to stand up to him and remind him anything female, from infants to 90 year old nuns is a target for rapists. Men get raped, too.
I don't own yoga pants, I do yoga in unbuttoned jeans in winter and shorts in summer. I'd look like hell in them.
If I went to that church (fat chance, I know), I'd show up the next Sunday with a sign that read "NOBODY deserves rape! RAPE IS THE SIN!" and let the chips fall where they may.

(255 posts)asshole from raping women is frumpy pants? I've seen some sights that made something move but I have never felt entitled to or compelled to physically or sexually assault anyone over it. I have been known to take that visual home though!

(2,682 posts)They never seem to understand that rape has nothing to do with sex. Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse, which is initiated by one or more people against another person without that person's consent. The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority or against a person who is incapable of valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, or below the legal age of consent. It is assault, unlawful violence. It is battery, criminal contact with another in a manner likely to cause bodily harm. (thank Wiki for the definitions). In psychological terms, rape is a rage attack for the purpose of injuring and overpowering the victim. In the case of rape, penis is the weapon. From what I've read, rape isn't a form of passion triggered by a low-cut blouse or a high-cut skirt. Women, big, little, old, young, cute or not, or anywhere in between can be targets. Many years ago, I had the opportunity to watch the local police sensitivity training video on rape. This so-called holy man needs to watch it. So for these pontificating pastors, I can say only one thing: Shut the Fuck Up until you know something about the subject, you miserable little prick.
PS -- full disclosure, I have never been raped, nor do I know anyone who has, but as a woman, I sympathize with my sisters and I understand that any one of us can be a target of some rage-filled criminal.
