When and why do you recommend an OP

I've always wondered how a post can have a couple hundred views and no reccs. Usually if I'm interested enough to click, I'll give a recc. If an OP seems worthwhile I'll also kick it. I have one pet peeve, well, actually way more than one, and that's a lede that goes, "Wow, you have to see this:, and when you open the thread you get a bare link; no text; no graphic. What prompts you to recommend a thread or withhold a recc?

That's pretty much it.

And dovetailing into that is the idea that I want others to see it too. Enough recs, and of course that means at least 5, gets the Greatest Page, where many more people will see it.

I rarely even think about it. I'm just not wired that way. When I am clicking through threads I am on a roll and not worried about other people seeing them. That's just how I roll.

...and I suspect a lot of others do, too.

To me, a rec is me marking a post as recommended reading. Sometimes it's because it's so bad, it's good.

"Wow, you have to see this:, and when you open the thread you get a bare link; no text; no graphic." is when you get all of the above but the link is to one of their own DU posts. And sometimes that link goes to a page with another blind link. There's been a lot of that lately. Grrr.

to write a sentence or two about it. I rec things to given them visibility. Usually, it's because an OP is good, but sometimes I rec bad OPs if they're entertaining fails. Shit that would belong in Meta if we still had Meta doesn't rate a rec.

that others should see. To be honest, I rec maybe 1 out of 50-100 OP's that I read.

I agree with you about the links with no text. I never click on those because I don't know where its going to take me. I figure if the author of the OP didn't care enough to give me at least a sentence or two to tell me what it's all about, I can't be bothered to click on the link.

even if I do not agree with the content. Just because I recc something does not always mean I share the opinions of the OP. Posts that seem to take courage these days to create will always recc. These usually challenge the "party" line in some fashion. I really enjoyed the Ed Snowden period. You knew who stood where, and still today they draw polarization among DU'ers.
