Video shows the police beating that never happened.

It's an old story, the police swear that they merely used the force needed to effect an arrest. The victim is battered within an inch of his life. The cops are viewed as dedicated members of the thin blue line. Then the video surfaces, and the truth comes out. The cops still won't be punished, the investigation into their criminal behavior is closed and won't be re-opened without a direct order from some deity, but at least the young black man has video to show how he was beaten near to death by two cops that had it in for him. I say had it in for him because they took every excuse to pull this young black man over and conduct a search of his car. I guess his real crime was driving while black.

The family may win some money in court, but they'll never get justice.

1. now that the DA is investigating

with the surfacing of the video along with all their other stops and searches of this poor guy I don't think there's much choice for the DA but to do the right thing.

One thing I'd like to know is where are these alleged drugs he supposedly tried to eat? Either the officers had to confiscate them and book them into evidence or the hospital would have been told he ate them and done something about it. Even if he did try to eat drugs to get rid of them what the officers did is not anything in the same universe of how that's dealt with by the police. Really stupid excuse there.

I'm curious as to why those two cops were so bent on going after this one particular guy. It's not just his race... they were fixated on this one black person. All those times in such a short span of time that they kept pulling him over and searched his car every time coming up with nothing. What the hell was their issue with this one single person?

I also noticed that in the report it was said that both officers were reassigned. I thought standard practice was to suspend with pay until the investigation is over even for really little things. Reassignment while this is under investigation especially with what they did is horrible. They need to be suspended from duty during the investigation like every other officer is when under investigation for anything.

6. it's not intended as a punishment

It's intended to keep them away from their job until an investigation is finished so they aren't dealing with the public in an authoritative capacity in case after an investigation is completed it's found that they're likely guilty of the accusations against them. It's also intended to keep the accused person away from the department offices since a lot of the investigation procedures require conjunction with that police department to gather information, and certainly the accused person shouldn't be there in order to possibly see or hear anything about that investigation.

It's standard practice with all US police forces when any of them are accused of something criminal or unethical or whatever. The reason they get paid during this period is because of the police union, which is a GOOD thing that all of us should enjoy instead of us non-union folks that are accused of something with no investigation and the boss just deciding on their own to fire you or suspend you or some other punishment when just because you're accused of something doesn't make you guilty of it, and of course there shouldn't be any punishment without a completed thorough investigation first.

I don't think that "suspended" is the actual word I was groping for. It seemed wrong to me when I wrote it, but whatever the word is that I'm brainfarting on is more like a word that means "put on leave". In news articles about an officer being accused of something this phrase is almost always noted that is usually something like "Officer so-and-so has been (suspended/put on leave/whatever the damn word is that escapes me) with pay until the investigation is completed." For the life of me I just can't recall what that damn word is that I've read in this standard sentence thousands of times, and it's driving me batty. I'm going to have to just look up some articles about accusations against specific cops and find what that stinking word is I'm brainfarting on before I lose my marbles over it.

In any case, especially with the video and evidence of the officers just stalking this one guy it really disturbs me that they were just reassigned to some other work duties where they're still working as police officers instead of the standard put on leave with pay so they aren't out there working as an officer while the investigation is going on. These guys should not be working in any kind of capacity as police officers during this time. I've never seen just reassignment as something that even could be done whatever the accusation.
