'Washington - A Man Of Prayer': Highlights From The Religious Right Prayer Event Inside The US Capitol

Submitted by Kyle Mantyla on Thursday, 5/8/2014 11:15 am

Last night, members of Congress and Religious Right activists gathered in Statuary Hall inside the US Capitol for an annual event called "Washington: A Man of Prayer" at which they honored George Washington by collectively praying that God would protect and defend the United States of America. Hosted by Mike Huckabee, the two hour event featured a variety of elected leaders, such as Rep. Tim Huelskamp and Rep. Steve King, who spoke together from the podium. Huelskamp asserted that God is at the heart of America because there is a small chapel located literally in the very center of the continent in Kansas, while King proclaimed that America was established by God.

I guess that sounded better to the Republican idiocracy than
George Washington, the just and upright Master Mason.

That the real George Washington was not some semi-deity who shit marbles, he was a man and he could be corrupt as hell.

As a surveyor, he was sued successfully several times for cheating landowners to benefit his cronies.

And in his first term as President, he turned down a salary, asked for expenses instead.
Sounds good, right?
Except his expenses were 10 times higher than his salary would have been.

Also there are passionate love letters in museums, written by Washington. To a woman *NOT* Martha Washington, who was already married.

But a lot of less than admirable things. And he's just a hard person to like - when you stack him up against the other founding fathers he seems like he'd be the one you'd avoid at a party.

John Adams used the Alien And Sedition act to throw in jail people for being critical of him.

Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.

George Washington also supported other religions and there was no "Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior" - it was Providence, or God.

And just because the Constitution ratification date is "the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven." does not refer to Jesus but just the dating method used at that time.
