When you're ready to buy a washer, refrigerator, etc., do you

wait for holiday sales (if that is an option, I mean if you don't have to do it right away),
or do you just go out and buy what you need?

If you wait for the sales, do you really save that much? Lots of times they pull the
"bait and switch" routine.

Complete renovation job. Like gutted the kitchen - I had not sink for 7 weeks!

The Columbus Day sale at PC Richard and Son was killer. But they tend to have excellent prices, customer service, etc. etc. all the time.

Do you have one in your area?

As for bait and switch - if you need something you need it. I couldn't use the 40 year old oven left in the house - so I needed the new one.

in the last month. I found Lowes to be really good and very fair priced. Whether it was a sale who knows but the prices were very fair. Also, if they installed it there was no sales tax and I got 12 months no interest on one and 18 months no interest on the other.

.... if I have a failing appliance, then I go ahead and replace it.

But if I have the time, I wait. Can usually save a lot of money waiting for the sales. IMHO.

Also, let me echo the above comment. Lowe's had the best deals around here by a wide margin.

Shopping around works, whether or not there is a highly publicized sale.

so I used a vacant room that didn't have heat for about a month and a half till it started to warm up, then I shopped. I couldn't find one very cheap so I bought a used one for $95 bucks. It works great but I am moving the first of June so I will probably buy a new one. The last used one I had (the one that just died) lasted me for 15 years and I paid $50 bucks for it. So it's really hard for me to spend 6 or 7 hundred on a fridge that as a rule the new ones only last 6 or 7 years. Being on a fixed income and a frugal person it's hard for me to justify a new fridge. I'll see how I think in June I guess.

I will check out prices, but Home Depot offers 10% off to Military, so I'm sure I can get a good deal. I've had my washer for about 10 years now, waiting for it to break so I can go and get me a front loader, but darn if that thing just keeps going and going.....like the Energizer Bunny.....drat!

Small scratches that may be on the side and unseen, otherwise, brand new and you can save money.

It came with the same warranty as buying new. The only thing that was dented was the base board plate and I managed to straighten it out just fine. I've had it for 3 years and no problems.

I need a new frig as well, but I'm not in any rush. I've been making due for the last 5 years with a crappy compact that I bought for $150.00. st Lowes.

Holiday sales on such things are no better than others. . Model year changes occur on appliances about the same time as for cars. We bought a Samsung refrigerator last year at the end of June, it was a 2013 model sitting next to the same model in 2014 with a few minor changes, we paid around 2/3 the 14 price.

they don't make them like that anymore.

We had to get what was available and did our best with what's local (not much).

I paid a total of $225 for a washer, dryer and fridge years ago from a shop three blocks from my house, and they all still work perfectly. My little Kenmore washer is so well balanced and so quiet, I can hardly hear it running in the next room. The owner of the shop is an excellent technician who really knows his stuff. As long as he's in business, I'll never buy another new appliance.

Lowes had it for $200 off, so I got the extended warranty also.

The very first month my electric bill had dropped $35.

People often have to sell household items like appliances when they move, and there are often very good deals. I got a (almost new) stackable washer and dryer for $300.00.
