Man beheaded, wife missing from gated community

http://cbs7kosa.com/news/national/article_4d7d1cdb-e121-56a1-9f0e-6a9368aa31a2.html

ATLANTA (AP) — An 88-year-old man was decapitated in an exclusive gated community in Georgia and his wife has gone missing, the sheriff said Thursday, adding that the man's head hasn't been found.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Russell Dermond was likely beheaded after he was killed, but the autopsy was pending. Sills said the cause of death hasn't been determined for the man whose body was found by friends on Tuesday.

Investigators fear Dermond's 87-year-old wife, Shirley, was abducted. They were searching for her Thursday with the help of the FBI.

The couple had been married for nearly seven decades, Sills said.

More murders are committed by family members than strangers. And while it might seem implausible that a woman in her 80s decapitated her husband and went on the run with his head, stranger things have happened (I can't think of any offhand, but I'm sure they have).

Not discounting the idea that a family member committed the murder; I just kind of doubt that the 88-year-old pulled it off (so to speak) in this manner.

drove around the country with his head because she didn't know what to do with it? Hmmm. Doubt it.

For a guy who has had his head lopped off.

...This is just a wild guess, but perhaps he died from... oh... you know... getting his head removed?

drug-related. I think mainly because beheading is such a bizarre thing to do, and it does seem to be part of the drug cartel's bag of tricks. I didn't realize that the couple had a son murdered in a drug-related killing, either. Maybe it all adds up.

But, it's hard to imagine that any drug killers would have left the mother alive and kidnapped her - I would assume she'd just be killed at the scene as well.I am very fearful for her.
