(KTHV/AP) Multiple Arkansas counties are issuing marriage licenses for same-sex couples to wed; this came after a ban on same-sex marriage was struck down on Friday. The four counties that are currently issuing them are Marion, Pulaski, Saline, and Washington; several counties have refused to do so, saying the Arkansas Supreme Court must weigh in on the decision.
Carroll County, the first in the state to issue same-sex marriage licenses on Saturday, are no longer issuing them; it's not clear what prompted the change.
While couples lined up outside of courthouses Monday morning waiting for marriage licenses, Arkansas' Attorney General Dustin McDaniel asked the state Supreme Court to suspend a judge's ruling that struck down the state's gay marriage ban.

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen is among those officiating same-sex weddings that are happening Monday in the Pulaski County courthouse. Griffen, who is also a minister, had performed three wedding ceremonies by 9 a.m. Monday. He says he's performing the ceremonies because "it's the right thing to do."

(3,596 posts)once a few "homos" and "lezzies" (I can use those terms as a gay man) get hitched and the state isn't struck down by God and heterosexual marriages within 500 miles don't fall apart much of their argument against marriage equality evaporates.
They cannot allow them to happen because people will realize that regardless of whether they like the idea or not, marriage equality will have absolutely no negative effect on their own marriages.

(15,703 posts)Just remember people.. There IS a separation between church and state.. If you don't like gay marriage, don't get one..
Gay marriage will have zero effect on my straight marriage, or how I raise my children.. It will only help my gay friends not feel like second class citizens.
A marriage contract is a legal document, not a religious one.. A church cannot issue a license, only the state.
