Clay Aiken's Opponent in Congressional Race, Keith Crisco, Dies

Clay Aiken’s opponent in the Democratic primary for North Carolina’s Second Congressional District seat, Keith Crisco, died today, according to the company he owned, Asheboro Elastics Corporation.

The 71-year-old textile entrepreneur and former state commerce secretary died at his home around 1:30 p.m., the company said. He had fallen, a spokesperson for the company told ABC News, but no other information was immediately available.

In a statement, Aiken said he was “stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death” adding he was “suspending all campaign activities as we pray for his family and friends.”

I am stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death. He was a gentleman, a good and honorable man and an extraordinary public servant.

It was close, and I think Crisco could've asked for a recount, but word had it that he wasn't going to ask for one. I guess he can't ask for one now.

From the article:

At the time of his death, the race was still too close to call. Aiken was leading Crisco by just 369 votes and on Tuesday the votes are scheduled to be officially certified.

and she is a complete and total RW nutbag teabagger science-denying and shut-the-government-down-but-give-me-my-paycheck ignoramus of the highest order. To put it mildly.

I'm going to send some money to Clay's campaign for sure to help unseat her if at all possible.

I knew the two had been in a close race. My county's Democratic site had picked Aiken for the race, but we didn't get to vote for him in the primary (only three people to vote for, though loads of races on the site).

Wow. Aiken's done the right thing by suspending his site temporarily.
