I don't have a micron of the courage of Michael Sam

I literally can't imagine being as good at something as Michael Sam is at football. To put his level of talent in some perspective, there are literally thousands and thousands of people his age who played high school football, well over a thousand of them played college football, hundreds of them played division 1 football, and he was picked in the top 250 of those people. And he put all of the rewards of that at risk by admitting who he is and who he loves. He literally can't ever be known as not gay again in any part of the country. He could have easily been rejected by the league and he still might not make the Rams. At age 22, I could have never done such a thing. I just didn't have the guts. I have no idea just what will become of his career. But even if he never tackles a quarterback again, he did something that damn few people would have had the guts to do. Those of us who are gay know that better than anyone.

No puns intended if they even exist. I really hope he does excellent. Except against the SeaHawks, of course.

Their are no non-gay only hotels, bathrooms, water fountains etc. It is not socially acceptable to say the F-word, like it was to say the N-word.

And people may say shitty things on the internet, but I bet they won't say to his face.

I admire his ability to say, this is who I am. But it hardly compares to the black struggle, And What Mr. Robinson lived through.

Off the field, sure.

But not every play. Every time. On every drive someone could try to take him out, and get away with it. Legal hit could end his career, break fingers, arms, legs, knees.

Both are important.

I believe he will have people on the field that will support him and back him up. Esp his teammates.

I stayed closeted until I retired but that was also a different time. It's people like him in his generation that will carry us forward.
