(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I do think Louis CK is worthy of the title.
Purely brilliant, razor-sharp hilarity that makes you think and sometimes blush.
I love this guy.

(25,406 posts)Note that I'm not begrudging him his fortune. He is funny and deserves to be in the 1%.

(56,912 posts)than 8.5 mil to make the top 1% .... I can see him being in the top 10-20% range but, the top 1%, really ... ?
not that I worry about the top 10-20% you understand.
Just parsing facts here is all.

Louis CK is 46.

(5,169 posts)So that would make 60 million twenty percenters.
I really don't see 59 million plus people, or even 29 million in America making more money than Louis CK.
Lots of successful performers are in the 1%.

(13,992 posts)He's just barely in the Top 1% based on net worth (it's $8.4 million to join the club).
I think the Top 1% is a bad yard stick, because it includes people like Louis CK and professional athletes who (skewed as our cultural priorities may be) actually do something to earn a living.
The richest 500 people in the United States are all billionaires. And many of them are people who simply make money by "skimming" off the wealth created by other people -- the hedge fund managers, etc., who really don't contribute anything to society.

(198 posts)That is until I heard some of his vile and racist material on a radio program I shall not name. His act was sickening.

Not that somebody needs to take an economics or history course in order to tell jokes.
But somewhat insulting.
I guess that makes it great.
