My simple definition of Straight, White Male Privilege - You're the home team.

Being the home team does not mean that you will always win nor does it mean that the road team won't have advantages of their own.

However, with that said, in general, it does make it easier to win when you're playing at home.

That's a fairly good analogy in my opinion - not perfect but pretty good. nt el_bryanto May 2014 #1

I have to say, it just kinda floors me that this is so hard for some to get or acknowledge.

I'm a straight white women and I agree. I also think I get some of my husband's white male privilege by being married to him. I don't know exactly how to explain how that works, but when I am buying something and am asked a question and the words "my husband" enter into the answer, I can sense a change in the conversation and that I am taken more seriously.

Certainly we've seen a number of privilege checklists, so it stands to reason that other demographics could be ranked in order of privilege simply by excluding the privileges that don't apply and tallying those that remain.
