Michael Sam Backs Down? Uh-uh, He DOUBLES DOWN

At yesterday’s St.Louis Rams press conference, Michael Sam fielded many questions about what it’s like to be the first openly-gay athlete accepted into the NFL. “It’s great,” he said.

One reporter told him about the story (which The New Civil Rights Movement reported) of a 15-year old who, surrounded by generations of his military family, announced he is gay. The boy’s father wrote on the University of Missouri’s Facebook page thanking them for Sam’s character and for being an inspiration.

“I’m honored that I helped someone to be comfortable with who we are — gave them a little courage to speak to his father. But right now I’m just looking forward to continue on my dream. And if it inspires other people, hey, I’m with you. And anyone that’s not okay with that, like I said earlier, if someone disowns you, be part of my family. I’ll welcome you.”

He is such a badass. I'm thankful that he refuses to hide, and instead be open about his life. This could really create a cultural shift benefiting equality.
