I suggest if modern society is so traumatic for her and her offspring, she lock herself in her home, after removing all televisions, computers, books and phones, and hide there until her kids are grown and she dies.

That way, neither she nor her children will be exposed to anything "they wouldn't do." That way, she will not suffer the abject PAIN and misery of living in a world where other people get to do stuff she doesn't like right out in the open.

It's so hard when you can't control the actions of others. Usually, though, people like Amy are obsessed with controlling the actions of others because they don't have their own lives under control. Witness her lack of impulse control: "I had a snit fit and walked off my job" would mean getting fired for any of the rest of us.
