http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/17/floods-serbia-bosnia-rain-balkans<snip>
Record flooding in the Balkans has left least 20 people dead in Serbia and Bosnia and is forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes.
Meteorologists say the flooding is the worst since records began 120 years ago and is due to three months' worth of rain falling on the region in three days. Goran Mihajlovic from Serbia's Weather Centre said such rainfall happens once in 100 years.
In the eastern Bosnian town of Bijeljina, some 10,000 people were being evacuated on Saturday after the rain-swollen river Sava surged through flood defences.
Officials in Bosnia said 12 people had died and more bodies could emerge as the water recedes from dozens of cities flooded in the past three days.
In some places, the water had reached the second floor of people's homes and they had to be rescued by helicopter from their roofs.

Remember climate change is a myth!!

(59,583 posts)Besides, unless cheerleaders or airliners have gone missing in said storms, there's really no need to cover extreme weather that isn't really happening, y'know?

It's amazing that I saw nothing about this on TV anywhere.

(2,805 posts)Everyone of our America-centric media was talking about a missing jetliner that had one American aboard while Washingtonians were drowning in mud. I would have thought the "drama" of searching for survivors in Washington state would have pushed the missing plane coverage of their radar.
It seems flooding is verboten on teevee. I don't know why because the visuals are there. Everyone can understand rising water levels.

(268,903 posts)Maybe they think we'll stop talking about climate change if they don't cover these extreme weather events like three months in three days rain.
Hope they find those folks alive sheltering somewhere.

(34,582 posts)because the flooding didn't occur in Benghazi.
malaise
(268,903 posts)nearly two thousand people were buried in a mudslide in Afghanistan recently with hardly any coverage.
Benghazi only gets coverage at Fox.

(42,239 posts)The worst floods in the Balkans for decades are threatening Serbia's main power plant, officials say.
The River Sava has burst its banks in many areas and water levels are expected to peak later on Sunday.
At least 20 people have died in Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina after a month's worth of rain fell in three days, and the death toll is expected to rise.
In Bosnia, landslides have buried houses and disturbed landmines laid during the war in the 1990s.
The floods are also affecting Croatia.
