I first read that on DU when a poster would post a good-bye cruel world post and announce that he or she was no longer going to post on DU....although I almost always identified with what the parting DUer was saying, it cracked me up.
C'mon...don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.....comedy gold!!!!!
I know that I'm not a well known poster or a beloved one, and that's fine. But I have been here for a long time, and I don't think I've ever had a thread hidden, or a cross word with anyone.
You see, I'm an old fashioned liberal. I believe in loving everyone and being open-minded. I have enjoyed my time here. This board has been a part of my life for a decade.
Thank you to the wonderful posters here. I have enjoyed reading your insightful posts. You are wonderful and worthy, far more so than anyone from the corporate media. Never forget that.
It's time for me to move on, however. I won't be posting, although I can not promise that I won't be lurking. After ten years, it would be almost impossible for me to stop checking out DU.
Yes, there is a reason behind this. Yes, it is probably what you think it is. Nevertheless, it's been a great ride.
Okay...............Ready......all together.......Don't let the door hit ye where the good lord split ya!!

(34,589 posts)I've been getting a regular stream of personal messages saying goodbye.
From today:
"I personally have stopped posting on DU and do not intend to return (allowing my membership to expire) due to the name calling, drama, never-ending outrage, cliques and complete lack of civility I have seen of late. Now it is simply a newsfeed for me.
I wish you luck with your concept, but I believe that it will fail based upon what I have seen of late."
Sad.
Good luck to all of us.

Odd, and sad, for this "underground."
S&S, good luck to you out there, as well.....!

(46,179 posts)The ugliness and the divisiveness. The primary wars, ironically between two neoliberals, that pushed Democrats to rank gender and race, and divided them along those lines when neither of the candidates fought over were worth it.
In my opinion, of course.
The place has never recovered. Once the nomination was made, everyone got into line, with the exception of a few under-the-breath/radar jabs at "pumas." Anyone who DARED step out of the regimented marching line of blind loyalty to question anything was crucified; I've still got the metaphorical nail scars. That wasn't "hospitable." That was "shut up or leave you traitor." When, over time, it became to obvious to deny and some Democrats who still actually support things like labor, civil liberties, single payer health care, peace, and opposing republicans started speaking up, things bogged down and have been stuck there ever since.
Just my perception, of course.

(32,723 posts)Funny how the only ones who noticed that were Kucinich supporters who were called "unrealistic".

(50,254 posts)Good luck, and I truly hope none of my threads or posts played a role in your decision to leave.
Please consider coming back later. Maybe you just need a respite from all of this.

And, we need more of that on this board.. I joined to interact with kindred spirits so lurking doesn't work for me. I actually left in 2010 thinking I wouldn't return but gave no goodbyes..
Then things changed in 2012 and I came back and still hangin' out..
Good Luck to you in all your endeavors, senseandsensibility

(15,139 posts)understand how you feel. On DU it's possible to inadvertently incite a flame war by stating something as innocuous as "I like babies and puppies." Everything is fair game and some people make it personal. I hope you'll eventually return. DU needs more kind, open-minded, proud liberals.

(34,582 posts)Seriously, I understand. It started going downhill, IMO, during Rush's Operation Chaos during the 08 primaries. We had a bunch of trolls jump on board, and they keep on coming.

Where else is there?
I've wandered the net to and fro, seeking whom I may devour.. or to write a note or two... I haven't found any better. The whole damned net is nuts-ville.
Best of luck!

No, SAS, I don't know what it is. You have been very respected poster for many years. I myself have been here in one form or another since 2003/2004.
I get the distinct impression that your health may be at issue. If so, I wish you good health as soon as that can be achieved.
Whatever, you know that there are a lot of folks rooting for you!

(28,784 posts)I never say that phrase, but maybe you'll decide to return in the future after a break. If so, it will be nice to have to back - so let me say that in advance, instead.

(38,187 posts)Then again, I only say that when an arch nemesis leaves...and those never leave on their own. They have mostly been TSed or PPRed through the years.
I don't think I have a beef with you. At least, I don't remember having a beef with you. So, I won't really be saying that in this case.
Personally, I hope you change your mind just because you said you believe in loving everyone. To me, DU needs more of that, not less, to keep it from sucking.

In your case, I'm not, so I won't say it.
