"I give you George W. Bush: The man who will go down in history as the last Republican president"

Without reform, Bush will be 'last Republican president'

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said Tuesday that Americans would never elect another president from the GOP if the party fails to act on immigration reform.

Gutierrez, one of the most ardent supporters of an immigration overhaul, brought a poster to the House floor depicting Republican Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George W. Bush.

"I give you George W. Bush: The man who will go down in history as the last Republican president in American history," Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez argued that if the growing Hispanic population continues to vote primarily for Democrats, the GOP would have difficulty winning future national elections. He quoted recent remarks by Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue that Republicans "shouldn't bother to run a candidate in 2016" if they don't move on immigration reform.

If it turns out to be true. I think he almost single handedly characterizes every thing wrong with the republican party. It is only fitting he should be the last standard bearer.

One state "decided" that a GOPPER was to be president.
*
Here's what the recent presidency should look like:

1992 - Clinton (D)
1996 - Clinton (D)
2000 - Gore (D)
2004 - Kerry (D)
2008 - Obama (D)
2012 - Obama (D)

So the last Republican president was actually George HW Bush!!!

They are a wretched lot & can't win on their ideas or policy without cheating.

Was it Molly Ivins who stated, "Republicans don't want to govern, they want to rule?"

But I doubt it. Voters crave 'change', no matter in what direction. We haven't had a Democratic president for more than 2 consecutive terms since FDR/Truman. Maybe W did kill their chances, but Rmoney, despite running an incredibly lame campaign, didn't fall very short. They will eventually find another photogenic liar who can be pushed down our throats. Maybe even Scott Walker.

I remember when Ford was going to to be "the last Republican president in American history" because of Watergate and the pardon.

And then we got Reagan...

I personally suspect that the complaint that Democrats don't come out to vote is misguided. I suspect that they do, but that their votes aren't counted.
