Madrid (CNN) -- Chalk one up for the first two bulls at Spain's top annual bullfighting festival.
Between them, they gored or bashed three bullfighters, putting them out of action, and forcing authorities to suspend a bullfight at the San Isidro Festival in Madrid for the first time in 35 years, said a spokesman for Las Ventas bullring, who by custom is not identified.
In front of a sold-out crowd of 24,000 at the historic bullring on Tuesday -- and a national television audience -- the first bull, weighing just over half a ton (532 kilograms) gored the first bullfighter, David Mora, in the left leg. He had to leave to get medical treatment.
But the tradition says the bull must die, so in stepped the second bullfighter, Antonio Nazare, who finished him off.
Next, it was time for the second bull, weighing slightly more than the first at 537 kilograms. He would prove even more dangerous.

(16,104 posts)Why didn't they just give the gored matador a painkiller and send him back in?
Oh, that would be even more barbaric. They do have their ethics.

(18,619 posts)called for six bulls to be killed and four are back on their ranches I think it was a pretty good day for them overall.
Maybe this debacle will make them think of following in Catalonia's path where bull fighting is no longer permitted.

He basically said what you just did. That maybe this would wake up the troglodytes and follow the lead of the two provinces that took the lead on this.

(86,569 posts)took some "fighters" with them on their way out. I find it similar to trees - though they often fare better since they don't get chopped down - when snowmobilers crash into them. Sometimes the trees win, but animals who fight back, not so much.
