Florida seniors get low marks for multiple health problems, drinking study finds
In a state ranking of senior health, Florida ranks last at 50th place among states for the percentage of seniors who have multiple chronic conditions, according to a report out today from Americas Health Rankings.
The report looked at the health of Florida seniors using 34 measures, including prevalence of obesity, chronic health conditions, level of physical activity, food insecurity and poverty.
Although overall, the health of seniors in Florida ranked 28th in the nation (down one notch from 27th in 2013), more significant were areas in which the state both excelled and performed poorly.
For instance, Florida seniors drink a lot. The state ranks 44th in the nation for chronic drinking among those age 65 and older, according to the second annual report on senior population health at the state and national levels. United Health Foundation sponsored the report.
