Just Look at this graphic, absorb the stats from the FBI 2001-2012!*********************
Before strangling her to unconsciousness and leaving her for dead, Michelle Johnson Majors abusive husband butchered nearly 100 paintings in an act of rage. A violent attempt to silence both her literal and artistic voice have ignited a passion in Major to educate others about the dangers of domestic violence.
How do you Paint the Portrait of Domestic Violence? has become Majors voice that educates, empowers and provides hope to those trapped in violence.
Using her artwork, Michelle Johnson Major shares her artistic journey from victim to survivor to embracing life filled with colorful hope.

1) Republicans not only want to reduce women's access to abortion care, they're actually trying to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't yet. Shocker.
2) A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain "victims."
3) In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.)
4) Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids.
5) In Congress, Republicans have a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life.

No women should ever be raped in the agricultural fields while they work,
never have 400,000 rape kits ignored across the nation by male-run law enforcement,
never get raped while serving in the armed forces,
never be raped just because they're drunk or
never for even just walking down the damned street naked.
Never.
Men must get control of themselves.
Their bodily needs are never, ever women's responsibility to meet.
Ever ever? Ever ever.
sheshe2
(83,730 posts)Not ever.

(19,964 posts)The global war on women is being fought on many fronts.
The casualties may include little girls, who get shot in the head or have acid thrown in their faces, their schools burned to the ground, only because they want an education.
It's the 15 million women and girls sold into slavery, including sexual slavery.
It's the untold millions of women denied reproductive choice, which can result in lifelong health problems or death -- and for many women around the world, dire and generational poverty.
It's every rape victim who has been murdered to preserve the "family honor".
It's the 140 million girls who have been victims of female genital mutilation.
It's every woman denied a voice, a job, a vote because she was born female.
It's some one billion and more of the world's women who will in their lifetime be the victim of physical/sexual violence at the hands of an intimate partner.
It's the 1 in 5 women in the U.S. who will be raped in their lifetime.
Oh yes, this war has many fronts. I will not stand for anyone to get in my face and tell me that the fight for the basic human rights of women should languish at the bottom on our list of priorities. This is not some side issue or a problem we'll get around to addressing once everything else we're told is more important gets taken care of. ANYONE who does not believe in/support the full, equal human rights of women can kiss my ass and I don't care who it is.
We talk too much about misogyny and how it has manifested itself in a global pandemic of violence against women? Like hell. We don't talk enough about it, and we will not stand down.

Did I see one of the hair on fire..I dislike Obama group there? Did they care or fight for women's rights? No I did not. Never, not once.
Nope, you know what was going to the top of the page back then. The bash Obama group. Day after day, dozens of threads about Obama's failures.
Not one effing one in support of women.
No, we will not stand down nor will we shut up!

liberalhistorian
(20,816 posts)that's for sure. The MRA contingent is fairly strong here. They like to jump in on these types of threads whining that no one cares or pays attention to violence against men and with bullshit claims that men suffer almost as much DV as women it's just "covered up" because it doesn't fit the "feminist meme", etc., etc. Then you have those who claim that child support is "male enslavement" and their cheerleaders and minions on here, too. Disgusting and it makes me sick that it's permitted to continue.
BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)"Because Women Aren't People" --to many guys, I mean. And plenty of women, sad to say.
I and a number of other outspoken feminists back then got tombstoned (I had a different screen name, then).
Moderators didn't see or care about the abuse being thrown at women who spoke up for themselves and others as Women. Pointing out masculinisms, let alone standing up to direct abuse, got you, the woman, booted.
However, I think there's a tide turning here, too. This is now the first time I've ever seen the word MISOGYNY spoken and pondered outside of a very small group of mostly women who analyse the female experience. And I'm even seeing more public questioning of something so taken for granted that you couldn't mention it even if you saw it; specifically, Male Aggression (with no social restraints. Restraint is historically shifted to women, as their responsibility, fault, problem, prison.)

(14,733 posts)The right as made it plain that they don't care if a woman is alive or dead, as long as she can carry a fetus to term. A rapist's fetus, one whose birth will result in the death of the mother. Any fetus is worth more than the life of the woman carrying it.
On the left, we don't have fetus-worship (much), but we've still got the focus on the genitals rather than the person. It's the sex, not the reproduction.
Virginia Slims ads or not, there's still a looooong way to go in the general population til we get anywhere near learning to treat people as people, no matter what genitals they may or may not have...
BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)That really captures the difference in rw misogyny and left wing philosophy.
Incubators or sex toys. (Though "sex toys" does overlap into the rw men's clubs, only outside of their public face. That's reserved for their secret lairs, men's rooms and sleazy luxury retreats.)

It hurts you to your soul. It is so wrong, so very wrong.
BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)Deeply painful. Wrong. And still silenced.
Men worry women will laugh at them. Women worry men will kill them. That's the truth, but it's still a big secret that no one's supposed to talk about.
Talking about male violence upsets men, and that's not allowed.

BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)yes, it is very true.
there's another famous quote, but I can't remember who said it. "Women's suffering doesn't matter". It was said by a feminist a long time ago......and it's only just now that I'm seeing the word "misogyny" pondered in any remotely public sense.
Finally, it's about time that you could just say the word without a total mudslide!!!! Is Women's suffering starting to matter? The innertoobz have given women a voice--a line of communication--- we didn't have prior. That in itself is a breakthrough.
redqueen
(115,103 posts)That in itself is a breakthrough."
Indeed. And this is why the fury directed at feminists online is so severe. This is why misogyny is so rampant on the net.
BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)and it's so easy too, to bully on the webz.
everything is a double edged sword.

(20,219 posts)Because we can speak with some degree of safety- -in anonymity and in numbers--we can say things that need to be said. We find that we women have a lot. ..A LOT..of similar stories.

It was also interesting to see how Karl Rove managed to beat her by shifting people's perceptions of their popular governor to start doubting that maybe women might be weak after all. It's amazing how propaganda and whisper campaigns can sow doubt and confuse people.

(39,171 posts)violence in America is shaped by sex and race - until America can shed the twin evils of misogyny and racism, we will never truly be a free country.
