Boycott FL as a vacation destination until they revoke the Shoot Whoever You Wanna Shoot laws.

Personally I would not feel safe setting foot in that state knowing that a lunatic like Zimmerman can not only get a concealed weapons permit, but shoot an unarmed person no consequences. How many George Zimmermans are there in FL, and how many would find me, a stranger, "suspicious?"

BTW, the stand your ground law has no standing int the Trayvon Martin murder. This case is more about corruption in the Sanford criminal justice system (not just the police, but the State's Attorney's office too) than anything else.

"Castle Doctrine laws of one kind or another" is a pretty broad statement. The castle doctrine, as the name suggests applies to your castle or home. Some states extend this to your place of work, or car, or a few other narrowly defined spaces. Very few states extend this to anywhere you have a right to be, and even for the few states that do, I know of no other state that legally protects the use of deadly force based on "reasonable belief" that you are in fear of serious bodily harm or death. "Reasonable belief" is a very broad statement. It means it doesn't matter if a reasonable person wouldn't have pulled the trigger. It doesn't even matter if the person actually was in any sort of danger. They just have to think they are in danger. It's pretty hard to disprove what is going on in the mind of someone. That's why so many people are getting shot in Florida and the shooters are facing no criminal or civil penalties. The law specifically protects idiots with guns.

Castle Defense is also a specific, arguable by some more extreme case of SYG. 24 states have some kind of SYG outside the home. People who actually know the law realize that.

When your BS is called, and you have no answer, you simply change the subject as if anyone is not going to notice your obvious diversionary tactic. Your negative responses reveal volumes about the substance of your arguments or rather the lack thereof, professor.

At any rate, if you think the term is "stupid" you might want to take it up with these other progressive organizations which prefer the same term, most likely because it's far more accurate than the ALEC and NRA's bullshit machismo 'Stand-Your-Ground' marketing term designed for the consumption of idiots. Not sayin' you of course. Just sayin'.

He was there to visit his father, but he lived in Miami Gardens. Trayvon was shot by some vigilante who thought that he didn't belong in Sanford, a vigilante who thought he could gun some stranger down and get away with it. It is possible to conclude that visitors in Florida are neither safe nor welcome...

Being from Az I can't say I like this boycott a state idea.
Yes, you want to make a statement but in the long run it just hurts the regular, everyday people that live & work there....people that probably hate these goper laws just as much as we DUers do. People who probably did everything they could to keep these crazies out of office, but didn't succeed.
I know what it's like to work my ass off against the craziness, only to know the crushing feeling when the crazies win.

That's hilarious but sadly true as shown by the Trayvon Martin murder. Keep posting because you have a way of getting the point across to people who don't understand what's really happening and the possible actual reason behind that "law".

Sun Apr 1, 2012, 07:38 AM

to contact the state tourism web page (and some of the local CVB's) and order your printed vacation guide(s). Have them send it to you via USPS and then simply chuck it into your recycle bin as "oops plans changed for this year's vacation". This has the plus of helping the Post Office a bit with additional business, costs the various agencies there a bit and is something like mailing back the credit card offers with empty envelopes.

At this point the entire matter is with the Special State Prosecutor, and, as far as I know, she will do the right thing. The problem is with THE SANFORD FLORIDA POLICE DEPARTMENT and Seminole County, which is a fraction of the state.

Now, if the Special Prosecutor fails to do her job properly, then... ok... I can see a rationale.

Until then, talk of a boycott is premature.
