Edward Snowden, living under asylum in Russia, gave a riveting interview to NBC's Brian Williams during which the former NSA contractor denied coordinating with the Russian government and argued the merits of his leak of hundreds of thousands of classified NSA documents.
"I have no relationship with the Russian government at all. I'm I've never met the Russian president. I'm not supported by the Russian government," Snowden said. "I'm not taking money from the Russian government. I'm not a spy, which is the real question."
Snowden's Moscow lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, works for Russia's post-Soviet security services (FSB). Snowden, who also said that he was "trained as a spy," also lives in an undisclosed location under FSB protection...the former CIA technician denied coordination with the Kremlin while sitting right across the river from Vladimir Putin's office and official residence.

Basically, Snowden's claim that he has "no relationship with the Russian government at all" is both demonstrably disingenuous. And he said it while sitting next to the Kremlin's heart.

From last September:
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview Wednesday that Edward Snowden is a "strange guy" who will likely lead a "difficult life" after his disclosures of top secret U.S. surveillance programs.
"You know, I sometimes thought about him, he is a strange guy," Putin said in an interview with state-run Channel One television, as quoted by AFP. "How is he going to build his life? In effect, he condemned himself to a rather difficult life. I do not have the faintest idea about what he will do next."
Russia's decision to grant Snowden asylum has compounded Putin's already-frosty relationship with President Barack Obama. It prompted Obama to nix his meeting with Putin that was scheduled for this week.
Putin said in the interview that the U.S. "could have been more professional" on the Snowden matter and revealed that the former government contractor was told while he was in Hong Kong that he could come to Russia so long as he stopped the leaks.

(85,992 posts). . . certainly enough innuendo to provide doubts for his detractors, but nothing at all to take away from the basis of the support he has from those of us concerned with what our OWN government is doing. No one is going to come to Russia under the circumstances he did and have free run of the country.
