I'm a bit worried about the blood pressure of some posters here this morning.
The gnashing of teeth and wargul#@^ about the date of the email that NBC reported on seems to be a particular point of distress.
NBC has requested the other emails that Snowden sent to NSA channels, through Freedom of Information Act.
So stop trying to accuse Snowden of CYA. Let's wait for the facts.
I know it hurts that the poll numbers on Snowden have totally flipped since yesterday. Sixty percent of NBC viewers now call him a patriot. Up more than twenty percent since yesterday.

(18,402 posts)Apparently, NBC tracked hashtags #patriot or #traitor for a few hours. That's about three steps down the "scientific polling" ladder from an Internet poll invaded by Free Republic.

(31,232 posts)been reluctant to call him a "traitor" all along. But that doesn't mean they "support" him. The last poll I saw showed the 2/3 of the American people (not NBC viewers) thought he should be prosecuted. That also hasn't changed since this began. I don't think this interview will change public opinion in any significant way.
WTF would anyone boast about an unscientific poll, while at the same time, performing a callout?

(50,130 posts)It is a snapshot. And in this snapshot, the numbers have more than flipped, in favor of Snowden.
It is an indication of the success of Snowden in convincing that segment of his authenticity and sincerity. Two thirds of that segment believe him.
Tarheel_Dem
(31,232 posts)that Snowden didn't "convince" anybody of shit. The people who were attracted to that interview already "supported" him. Does that require an explanation?
grasswire
(50,130 posts)...that NBC could, if anyone wanted to do so, check to see if any of the tweeters had changed their minds from traitor to patriot.
You're overthinking this, really. It's a snapshot. That's all.
On edit.
I see what you are doing. Distracting from the central point; that NBC has requested from NSA the other emails.

(31,232 posts)the end of the day, only Snowden supporters give a shit what actually happens to him.

(50,130 posts)From the looks of things around here, NSA defenders care more about Snowden than anything else. Lots of huffing and puffing and gnashing and hyperbole and making things up out of nothing going on here today.
Indifference would be indicative of lack of "giving a shit." FYI.

(31,232 posts)Poll: Most think Edward Snowden should stand trial in U.S.
Most Americans 61 percent - think Snowden should have to stand trial in the United States for his actions. Far fewer 23 percent - think he should be granted amnesty. Republicans, Democrats, and independents all agree on this as well.
Meanwhile, 31 percent approve of Snowdens actions, while most, 54 percent, disapprove. Majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and independents disapprove.
Americans are divided as to the impact on the country from making the NSA program public. While 40 percent think the disclosure has been good for the country, 46 percent think it has been bad.
When asked to come up with a word that describes Edward Snowden, nearly a quarter volunteer either traitor or a similar word that questions his loyalty to his country, while 8 percent say he is brave or courageous or a hero. Just 2 percent volunteered that he is a patriot or patriotic, and another 2 percent say terrorist.
I know you'd like to keep this shit thread going, but I'm out. C'ya!

More Americans oppose Edward Snowdens decision to flee the U.S. with thousands of stolen documents and reveal confidential details about the National Security Agencys surveillance programs than those who support his actions, according to a new NBC News poll.
The findings come in the wake of Nightly News anchor Brian Williams wide-ranging, exclusive interview with Snowden, which aired on NBC primetime last Wednesday. Yet, the nations opinion of the former government contractor turned worlds most wanted man changes significantly by age.
<...>
The poll shows a striking difference of opinion in Snowden by age. Those ages 18 to 34 tend support Snowdens actions, by 32 percent to 20 percent, and view him a favorable light, compared with all other age groups who dont.
<...>
The NBC poll finds Americans -- by a 2-to-1 margin view Snowden in a negative light: 27 percent of voters have an unfavorable opinion of him, while 13 percent have a positive one.
