Right-wingers hate electric cars and make things up about their performance, exaggerating the flaws. This is why they were very upset upon hearing that George Bush Sr. purchased a Chevy Volt as reported by Forbes and others yesterday:
Word is out that President George H.W. Bush, in a move that is enough to make me sentimental for the days when a Republican could lead his party to the White House while still possessing a level head, purchased a Chevy Volt for his son, Neil.
Visiting the "Freerepublic" website and reading comments about Bush's purchase is enough to find out how pissed off these oil-lovers are. They are even calling him names!
By the way, the Forbes article is pretty good. Read its entirety if you can.

(28,151 posts)So, what, did Neil get some kind of bonus for staying out of the news for a certain period of time or something?
Glad to hear a Chevy Volt was the choice. Go Detroit! Bonus: Freepers in a tizzy over it.

(3,249 posts)..... that the Chevy Volt does in fact have a gas tank? I wonder who is looking dumb?

(23,973 posts)I guess I should have used the thingy.
Neil looking for the 'gas' cap, and trying to put some into the electric charging port instead.
Guess I was too vague for some.
I have actually driven a Volt, they are very nice hybrids, but too expensive.

(3,249 posts)I always liked the idea of the series hybrid. Use electric most of the time, and the ICE (a small turbine would be cool) to provide for longer range when needed. But the cost of the Volt is out of the range of feasibility for me.
I always liked the idea of a pure electric, like the Leaf, and a small pull-behind trailer with an engine-generator and gas tank set up providing energy for longer range trips. The trailers could be an option, or perhaps a rental for only when you need one. I've seen the concept fleshed out in prototype once or twice on the 'net, but I haven't run the numbers on energy needed, or cost. One of these days I'll break out the old slipstick and run some numbers.

(21,925 posts)It's a human-electric hybrid. With four passengers providing power it can reach a speed of 60 mph. Its battery can recharge completely off the grid with solar panels and human power but it also has a plug-in feature.

(37,130 posts)Good thing Comrade Bush is old and still has some usefulness in shoring up the weak-kneed "moderates", or else he'd have to be completely edited out of the picture like that other person with the similar name.
