And, in this society, we are trained to be obsessed with being superior to other people...and to believe that there's no such thing as an innocent victim.

Some days, this whole freaking country seems like it's a giant cycle of abuse.

Reading that makes me glad I was born me and not her

One really would have to be messed up in the head to articulate that to anyone; I'm quite sure she's said that to someone who has been raped.

Being in a roomful of Hell's Angels isn't the litmus test for who is prone to rape.

What a jerk she was for saying that to you.

That makes us want to kick Afghanistan's ass for making their women wear burkas. Holding women responsible for being too sexy for their clothes, because it gives men the wrong, idea (that women ask for it by breathing, and we want it because we showed up).
Projection.

'if you party 'til 3 a.m. you are liable to attract trouble' meme all of the time. i always asked the guy who said that to me if he was planning to do the deed. pissed me off to no end. especially since i am a night owl and have seen more sunsets from the back side than from the front.

my father used to say i would never find a good man in a bar. i would ask him what that said about me, who loved the nightlife. my two best men WERE found in bars and i am still with the last one.

we need more (progressive/liberal) women leading this country.

Society is deeply misogynist. There are a few bright spots, but mostly we are all indoctrinated to believe men are the default human beings and women are subordinates, the sex class.

We need to start teaching our sons RIGHT NOW that rape is never acceptable. Only consent is acceptable. And it should be enthusiastic consent. That's it.

4 of 5 young women (18 and younger) felt that their boyfriends had the right to slap them if they 'deserved it.'

Misogyny is strongly correlated with patriarchy--indeed, how can we expect our young male children to respect our young female children, when they are persistently taught that women are 'less than'? How can we expect our young female children to be strong and independent, when they are persistently taught that rapes, relationship violence, and sexual assaults are 'their fault'?
