I love women! I love the compassion they have, I love the smiles they are able to put on many a face's, I love the simple fact that I am here is because of a women, I absolutely love the fact that women are more intuned to help support LGBT Rights. There are so many more reasons to love women (feel free to add to the list).
I HATE HOW WOMEN GET TREATED BY MEN WHO THINK THEY KNOW WHAT'S BETTER FOR A WOMEN'S BODY MORE THAN A WOMAN DOES.
To all the lovely women out there, I salute you, you make life worth living.

Diversity forever. Love forever. What a great world that would be if the court would mandate that?

(81,220 posts)Thank you. But I find myself becoming more concerned about YOUR rights.
I look at what's been done to Roe v Wade, and I'm sorry to say this, but the bad guys WILL be coming for the rights YOUR side just won. Protect marriage equality - as though your very life depended on it! Fight like hell to protect the ground you've gained! Because they WILL be coming to take those rights away from you. They don't believe in it, they don't agree with it, and they're hellbent on making sure THEY rule YOUR life, too. That's how they feel about us women and the views THEY wish to impose on all the rest of us. Roe v Wade is on the ropes now because they will NOT give up and they sure as hell don't accept the idea that this was settled back in the 70s. WE'RE still fighting it, and astoundingly, losing ground EVERY DAY. If the LGBT community doesn't go damn near thermonuclear to protect your rights that have been hard-fought and hard-won, there are forces all over the country that are determined to roll those rights back and take them away from you. The instant you let down your guard or assume that just because you happen to be winning at the moment, that's how it's always gonna be.
Learn from the misfortune of us on the pro-choice side. We're almost totally fucked at this point. PLEASE!!! Don't let that happen to YOU!!!!!!
William769
(55,145 posts)And even though there has been a recent setback for women, the fight is clearly not over. never give up, failing is NOT an option.

(9,112 posts)I appreciate your kind words William. We will need your help going forward. Until we unburden ourselves from this strain of Fundamentalism in our courts, we have to act as one. There are meany straight men who are horrified by this decision in part because either they are threatened with an actual "Shotgun wedding" or their sons may be. Whether or not the young men fathering unwanted babies will be responsible to that child is a wide open question. I wouldn't trust the Supreme Court to tackle that oncoming issue.
Not to mention the fact that real national security issues are taking a very distant back seat to these nuts because they've taken the Republican Party hostage.

(6,589 posts)I'm a straight male & I've always had more female friends than male. I guess I've had deeper & more meaningful friendships with women, as opposed to the superficial "who won the football game" relationships I've had with so many men.
I also think it's total BS that people without a uterus keep trying to control what women can do with theirs. Once they grow a uterus I'll be glad to listen to their opinions on the matter. Until then, STFU.
And ... if I ever see a woman being attacked or abused I will be the first to step in & lay down a serious ass kicking on the perpetrator. I'm generally not a person of violence but I absolutely will not stand for men who abuse women.

(574 posts)less than squat, nurses were almost all women then. And the nurses stepped up. I remember that the Lesbian contingent seemed to be over-represented, but in SF back then maybe the nursing profession in general was disproportionately Lesbian. The only reason I bring that up was there was a lot of flack about whether gay liberation meant lesbians, too. Then the plague hit.
I can't stress enough...I get the whole, 'I'm a nurse' thing, but to have people who weren't exactly political fellow travelers, with no skin in the game, thinking that we knew how this thing spread, but not really knowing for sure...
Sorry. It's taken me about a half hour just to write this.

(55,145 posts)I am out about it and am not ashamed about it either.
I was coming of age when the crisis hit and lost a lot of very dear friends to AIDS from the beginning to even now including my life partner of 16 years back in 2006.
I have to say through the years it was the female nurses that we dealt with who were very compassionate.
I have been around the block more than a few times.

(108,977 posts)because it was right about when my dad came out. Somehow, he didn't get AIDS but he lost so many friends to the disease.
At one point he asked if I wanted to take over paying for his life insurance policy -- then I could be the owner if he died. I said no thanks when I realized that the only way for me to come out ahead was for him to die soon. I'm sure he thought that was a real possibility, but he was wrong. He lived for many more years -- and his partner is still going strong.

Don't let men get away with "jokes" in conversations.
Don't let men get away with presumptions of privilege.
The war has been on for millennia and we need allies. We're not inherently competitive or violent but we need to win. Equality. Just for equality. Equality.
Men of quality are not threatened by women for equality, whether it's economic, social, religious or legal.
Humanity will never advance when half of it is kept down by even a fraction of the other half, whether through slavery, enforced reproduction, poverty, fear, patriarchal gods or disenfranchisement.
Again, thank you.

(12,151 posts)Many do. Not in some misty poetry way. Not because of (for the straight) sex. Just for them. For the similarities and the differences. For mothers and sisters and daughters. For everything.
Somehow we have fed a perversion in our culture -- in so many cultures -- that has turned what should be mens' unique perspective on all the things that are wonderful about women into something ugly. Into contempt. Possessiveness. Fear?
Neither of us at my house have been able to watch the "news" commentary shows since this latest. It just hurts. There is too much rage to express. All the dry discussion about this bad-faith religious posturing that somehow never struck anyone until the ACA passed. This exciting new rightwing strategy of claiming religious freedom to punish and denigrate people. This smirking new Supreme Court slowly pushing an ideology of money and corporate personhood over human beings. Gee, is this insane ruling "broad" or "narrow?" Is it just this one area in which hateful idiots get to practice their stupidity on the rest of us? Maybe that's okay then.
I have a religion too. It says you can think whatever made up nonsense you want, right up until it requires mistreating someone. At which point you need to keep it to yourself.
I notice every time one of these new waves of attacks on women hits, we hear about how "all of the women" will be angry, upset, disappointed. "All of the women" want equal treatment, physical safety, reproductive rights; their medical needs met. Watch out, for the women.
They are half right, but they missing part of the picture. Men -- those not consumed with this perverse contempt -- love and value women too. We are also disappointed; upset.
Angry.
Better watch out for them, too.
