Police: NC teen hid pregnancy from parents, gave birth, buried baby in backyard

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A 16-year-old girl appears to have hidden her pregnancy from her parents for nine months and given birth without their knowledge to a baby girl who was found buried in the family's backyard, a North Carolina sheriff said Tuesday.

Police found the full-term baby, who weighed 8.5 pounds, buried in a subdivision in Franklin County, Sheriff Jerry Jones said Tuesday. Based on preliminary information from the state medical examiner's office, authorities believe the baby was dead when she was buried, he said.

They're awaiting the final report to determine the cause of death and whether the baby was alive when she was born.

The investigation began about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when someone who had overheard a conversation went to authorities, he said.

The person "overheard something like, so-and-so is having a baby, and she's not going to tell anyone about it," Jones said. "So it would be a concealed childbirth. He didn't know if it was true or not. His remarks were that 'I cannot keep this. I have to tell somebody.' "

They are not sure yet if the baby was alive at birth or not. They are waiting for the forensics report.

Some people knew about the pregnancy though. The baby's father along with a few other people. Its not clear if they knew the baby was buried.

1. A result of shaming.

Shaming is big with the "religious" crowd.

Shaming if you have sex.
Shaming about contraceptives.
Shaming about same-sex sex.
Shaming about just about every god-damned thing.

Girls and women bear the consequences, so they are easy to shame.

It's not unheard of for the father to do most of the shaming.

The baby's father knew, so did a few other people. So this teen trusted her peers with this information more than she trusted her parents. For a teen to hide a pregnancy for 9 months, that takes some effort.

Why, why do young people do these things? Of course, I have at least some idea.

Conservative, rigid parents who cannot accept the fact that their daughter is having sex.

Or a terrified teenager who cannot think straight, even though the facts are out there about turning over the baby to a safe haven.

Now, everything is a huge mess because the girl thought she had to hide her pregnancy and the resulting child.

So very sad.

Who was ANGRY as hell at me for having a healthy, normal full-term baby.
All he cared about was money, because that's all that matters to him.
He cared nothing for the future, or children or anything else.
