I suppose the good news is, the vast majority of young people who are, on the whole, always more progressive/less uptight than their elders are completely repulsed, if not outright infuriated, by the fact that womens rights are still under such antiquated duress, as exemplified by how any half-brained company that happens to be owned by fundamentalist zealots can now deny vital health benefits to women (and only to women, tellingly), simply because the owners have a pinched, regressive view of God.
Did you know the owners of Hobby Lobby which, by the way, is one of the most depressing, third-rate retail dystopias youll ever visit and you should avoid their stores at all costs, now more than ever did you know the owners, being evangelical billionaires, have spent hundreds of millions trying to turn the nation into a cluster of regressive, Bible-thumping literalist simpletons? True.
Did you know they have done this because, as history clearly shows, basing a nations core values on an childish reading of a tedious, violently outdated book written (and re-re-rewritten) by highly neurotic old men thousands of years ago has worked so well in the past? Also true.

(51,076 posts)on that front that they have to push it off on the rest of us. I have news for them many of us, both sexes, out here in the real world like sex no matter how much they try to denigrate it. Sex is enjoyable by most and its one of lifes little gifts to us.
When I say 'they' who I mean by that is. Old bigoted narrow minded too old to get it up mostly white men. Men who feel they've been violated by the rest of us voting for a black man to be our leader, our President, yeah those assholes. Voted for him twice with a pretty damn good margin both times too, btw

(68,347 posts)They are inadequate. I knew many conservatives in GA...my own hubs was a Republican (not any more) Honestly, they most rabid conservatives were completely miserable and there were many divorces among this group. I was raked over the coals by several of the ladies because I gave my daughters the talk complete with information about contraception and offered to provide it should the need arise...My oldest told her friends who's parents were shocked. I kid you not... every girl but one of her friends (parents were quite conservative and abstinence was taught in schools) had a baby under 18. I told my girls that there was nothing wrong about sex but you had to protect yourself from pregnancy and from disease...I also told them I did not believe those in High School were ready for sex emotionally despite their biological readiness. But should they choose to be sexually active... I would provide them with what they needed without judgement. My girls chose to abstain during High School and have a very healthy attitude in my opinion. The other thing I found interesting with these GOP women was their almost universal dislike of sex...a cross to bear...but these were young women. As a woman I found that quite shocking. Of course after hearing Santorum's opinions and those of others like him...I now understand completely and sincerely pity these women.

(5,106 posts)the "Bible Belt," by several (otherwise nice) vocal "Christians" I know who claim that "Christians" are discriminated against. I'm always quick to call bullshit on that. It always seems that they mistake amiable disagreement, or the fact that someone else isn't a "born again" churchgoer, as an attack on their own "Christian" beliefs. Even those who refrain from preaching to others, seem offended and puzzled by those who don't share their beliefs.
