Danielle Deaver was 22 weeks pregnant when her water broke and doctors gave her a devastating prognosis: With undeveloped lungs, the baby likely would never survive outside the womb, and because all the amniotic fluid had drained, the tiny growing fetus slowly would be crushed by the uterus walls.
"What we learned from the perinatologist was that because there was no cushion, she couldn't move her arms and legs because of contractures," said Deaver, a 34-year-old nurse from Grand Isle, Neb. "And her face and head would be deformed because the uterus pushed down so hard."
After having had three miscarriages, Deaver and her husband, Robb Deaver, looked for every medical way possible to save the baby. Deaver's prior pregnancy ended the same way at 15 weeks, and doctors induced her to spare the pain.
But this time, when the couple sought the same procedure, doctors could not legally help them.

(10,260 posts)"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
I hate them too, because they are like lesser animals...they don't ever THINK, they just....DO. And they will KEEP doing, it's what the UNthinking do best, it seems....

(39,451 posts)Isn't that one of their talking points as to why they are anti-abortion?
If a fetus can feel pain, tell me how that unborn child was not in pain while it was being crushed?
This is inhumane for both the mother and that child.

(16,968 posts)...so Ms. Peterson, or at least her staff, will get an earful from the public about this.

and plenty of U S women support the stupidness
I heard today some sorry state is trying to, or did pass a bill that would allow science teachers to teach their own views on 'science' without any curriculum support or opposing views(ie facts) in the classroom
Basically - your tax$ could go to UNeducate your children now in a public school---we are not talking some off the wall private Christian or whatever backwards school has the right to teach this - this is mainstream public schools
I thought the story was going to be about a Catholic hospital but now it is whole states = no choice again !!!

(42,290 posts)This is the problem with these "all or nothing" abortion laws.
They're a MAJOR interference with real issues between a doctor and patient.
God, I hate "know-nothing" conservatives

(20,681 posts)I would care more to listen to anti-abortion advocates when they start treating the issues that women really face in real life rather than abortion as some abstract moral notion like having bad manners.

(6,670 posts)In their view the issues that women really face are that they have too much power and too little control, and are therefore all making stupid wrongheaded decisions like owning money, educating themselves, having careers, making decisions independently of male authorities. Oh, and not suffering enough, nor feeling enough guilt and shame about being women. Their approach works quite well to address these concerns.

(42,290 posts)WHY they think this strategy is going to benefit them, in either the long or short term.
Are the religious crazies their ONLY constituency?
I mean, sooner or later you HAVE to look over your back fence and see who else lives there.

(37,540 posts)Each one will be unique but with the same basic outcome - bad law that's created awful dilemma's and even life threatening situations for women. Eventually, the deaths of few women needlessly will shame these conservative morons into retreating from their stupidity...or maybe the citizens will finally realize that you can't trust conservatives to manage the affairs of government and vote them out of office.

(5,963 posts)Those ignorant, dark age fucks that are the elected state officials in Nebraska should be deeply, DEEPLY ashamed after seeing this. THIS is what their ignorance gives us. But of course, they won't be, because the political points they score with the equally ignorant and shameful voters that support them are just too good for their sorry asses to pass up.
I'm so fucking sick of having to put up with this sort of ignorance on a daily basis, and the real damage it is doing to our country. Enough is enough, people.
