America the Violet: Take This Quiz To See Where You Fall on the Political Spectrum

To coincide with the publication of the typology, Pew also released a quiz that allows voters to see what group they fit into. The quiz is pretty simplistic; each question has only two multiple-choice answers—one hardline conservative and one progressive—and I don’t think there’s anyone left in the US besides the Kochs who thinks large corporations don’t have enough power, as one question asks. Yet the results, which show your answers in comparison to those of the general population, may surprise you (an example: only 27% of the population thinks racial discrimination is a persistent problem). Take the quiz to see where you fall on the multicolored political spectrum.

23 questions, 23 answers...good luck. I scored an impressive 'solid liberal' rating.

along with 15% of the public.

Generally affluent and highly educated, most Solid Liberals strongly support the social safety net and take very liberal positions on virtually all issues. Most say they always vote Democratic and are unflagging supporters of Barack Obama. Overall, Solid Liberals are very optimistic about the nation’s future and are the most likely to say that America’s success is linked to its ability to change, rather than its reliance on long-standing principles. On foreign policy, Solid Liberals overwhelmingly believe that good diplomacy – rather than military strength – is the best way to ensure peace.

... it once again shows that most Americans agree with the liberal position on most issues. Just check the national results under your final score once you've completed the quiz.

Despite the fact that most Americans take the liberal view on most issues, nearly half of us will vote for Republicans at the ballot box. What gives?

And I, too, am proud of it and I don't mind saying so.

I believe and have observed that what liberals have espoused and instituted and brought to the national consciousness, and it has been consistently beneficial - in the interest of promoting the greater good. Good ideas. Creative approaches. Inclusive. Helpful. Motivating. Logical. Compassionate. Flexible. Adaptable. Cooperative. Economically beneficial. Community-building. Life-saving.

Anybody remember "A Day in the Life of Joe Republican"? Worth a revisit. It's not a negative - being a Democrat, Or, especially, a LIBERAL. That's no scarlet letter. It's a beautiful bright blue gem of a letter "L" - kinda like that little blue dot in the cosmos. It's pretty damn GREAT!

Next Generation Left.

The questions about the military and corporations probably are what skewed me 25% towards RMoney in 2012. I'm guessing Solid Liberals didn't get that "split" result?

If the questions on the military had read "Intelligence" I may have had different results. I grew up with a Green Beret so I believe in intelligence and special forces when absolutely necessary - but not massive amounts of soldiers/human beings in harms way. I also work in telecom and have a business contros function - so I know first hand how intrusive government is (data, customer information demands, demands for assistance from Secret Service, FBI, etc etc).

ETA:
Social Characteristics

Fully 88% of the Next Generation Left say that homosexuality should be accepted by society and 78% favor same-sex marriage.

This group has the highest share of self-described moderates (53%) in the political typology.

About two-thirds (68%) are non-Hispanic whites and 15% are Hispanic.

Roughly three-quarters (74%) have some college experience and 62% are financially satisfied.

Only about half of the Next Generation Left (47%) view religion as very important and only about one-in-five (21%) attend services at least weekly.

But not surprising. I'm 41 now - I see AA's BEING the Republican party in 40/50 years. But I also think in 40/50 years we are going to have many more than "two parties". My niece and nephew in America that are of age to vote - both "prosperity" people but wish the Republican party would drop all of the social issues and stop picking on minorities and women.

This is why the Koch brothers giving money to the UNCF makes me twitchy. It's a rope a dope. The Republican Party does not deserve the votes of black Americans or women. They are shameful - until they aren't shameful . . . They don't deserve our votes.

On the little graph, it says "Consistently liberal" for me.

There were a few questions that I didn't agree with EITHER answer, specifically the one about whether American intervention in the world usually makes things worse or the problems would get worse without US intervention. If there was a "Sometimes Both" answer for that one, I would have checked that.

These kinds of tests usually annoy me because they are so damned narrow, too black and white. Which is not the way that I operate at all. This test is no exception.

Which does not make sense.

"Deeply financially-stressed and distrustful of government,"

that's kinda 0 for 2.

And it is odd for some of the questions.

I answered that "government often does a better job than people give it credit for" along with a huge minority (25%) of my fellow hps, and 40% of the general public.

Again
I answered that "government regulation of business is necessary to protect the public interest". Along with, again, a huge minority of hps (28%) and 47% of the general public.

In a number of cases , 7 out of the 23, my answer was chosen by less than 40% of the group I supposedly belong with.

Who was not solidly liberal.

I know internally I skew towards Authoritarian.

My husband's oldest uncle - uncle Nicola - was part of Mussolini's inner circle. He's said several times Beni and I would have gotten on "quite well". That - and Beni would have liked my looks!

I'd rather see a quiz with more than just two answers per question. Not a lot of room for nuance, you either got the liberal or conservative choice for each one, so of course you end up with almost everyone here basically getting a 'perfect' liberal score.
