A reply to an old post on a pretty amazing picture.

Back in 2012, I posted this thread about 90 year old Archie Hackney meeting a sitting president for the first time. It was an extremely touching photo, as Archie attempts to stand to greet the President.

Well earlier this week, I noticed someone had replied - his daughter, Vicki.

She said Archie passed away earlier this year.

What a life he must've lived!

God Bless, Archie!

What you think of the man you respect the office.

In return Obama's recognition of a vet showed he was worthy of the respect

Yes, Archie did live quite a life, didn't he? But we all have stories to tell. One reason I so loved John Steinbeck is because he could take someone most of us might think of as ordinary, maybe even boring, and then show us how fascinating the character really was. I think 'The Wayward Bus' illustrated this best. Fortunately I found 'East of Eden' to read on the QT when I was only 12, so I didn't have to wade through a lot of drivel posing as literature.

I also remember thinking at the time that Fox would run the story and say "Obama forces elderly vet from wheelchair" or some other bile. Glad to see that man get to experience what was clearly an honor for him during his twilight years.
